SRSAP Runs

Hosted Runs Held Across Campuses

SRSAP aims to cultivate a communal setting in which people can support the fight against suicide by running for those impacted. Registration and t-shirt profits will be donated annually to community selected organizations. No matter who you run for, the very act of running together reinforces the impact of community in destigmatizing suicide prevention.

Contributions

How Can I Contribute to SRSAP?

There are a myriad of ways to contribute to SRSAP. Each runner will pay a registration fee which will be contributed to annual donation partners each year. Even if running isn't for you, you can still support SRSAP by donating to sponsor runners. We highly encourage both runners and non-runners interested in our cause to spread the word to family members and loved ones about the impact and mission of SRSAP. SRSAP has filed with the IRS and is an approved tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to SRSAP are tax deductible.

Mission Statement

Almost everyone has been impacted by suicide in some way, whether losing a family member, friend, or personally struggling in a battle with depression. Students Run For Suicide Awareness & Prevention was formed to raise awareness for suicide by creating community events aimed at remembering the names of the loved ones who have lost their lives to suicide. We host running and social events, where people can run in honor of their loved ones and expand their legacies. We also plan to host digital stories sharing these peoples’ legacies to promote their stories and remember their impacts, serving as both a means of remembrance and a source of comfort in showing people that they are not alone. Funds generated through events and donations will be donated annually to a select number of organizations each year.

Fountain House

Fountain House's Mission is to "improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people most impacted by mental illness." Fountain House has worked to acomplish this mission by establishing clubhouses to aid those suffering from serious mental illness (SMI) offering them resources, purpose, community, and a sense of belonging. "In each clubhouse, an intentional community is created, where members and staff work together, side-by-side, to carry out all daily operations of the clubhouse. Members are also given access to crisis intervention services when needed and are connected with resources to support their basic needs, including support with employment, relationship building, education, housing, and daily meals." An image of one of their clubhouses can be seen below.

Garrett's Space

Garrett's Space was founded by Scott Halpert and Julie Halpert after the loss of their son Garrett, a student at the University of Michigan. Garrett's Space aims to create a residential center to help and support young adults facing an increasingly complicated and difficult world. "We hope to locate the center in a place surrounded by nature, in the midst of a tranquil woods with walking paths. The residents will be embraced by a warm community of social workers and other caring staff, and shall have continued access to their treating mental health professions through telehealth capabilities at the Center." A rendering of the center can be seen below.
